SUMMARY:JOYLAND: Benaiah Cusack Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:On view: July 3 – August 8 \nMeet the artist/reception: July 11\, 5pm to 8pm \nJoyland is a state of mind guided by wonder and curiosity through the creative process of art making. Inspired by imaginary coastal spaces\, ocean light\, rhythmic movement\, tropical color\, the energy of street art\, and a hint of the cosmic\, this body of work explores environments that feel both vibrant and introspective. Layered surfaces\, fluid forms\, and bold color interactions create an atmosphere that moves between dreamscape and memory—places that do not exist\, yet feel familiar. The work balances playfulness with reflection\, inviting moments of connection\, engagement\, and emotional escape. \nThrough Joyland\, viewers are invited into a vivid world where imagination\, energy and emotion converge—a space that rekindles wonder and joy. \nBenaiah Cusack is an abstract landscape and mixed-media painter working in acrylic\, ink\, graphite\, and collage. His practice explores color\, gesture\, and layered composition\, shifting between structure and spontaneity to build surfaces shaped through an intuitive process. Based in St. Petersburg\, Florida\, his work draws from coastal environments\, street art and mural culture\, atmospheric light\, and rhythmic movement\, translating fragments of observation into painted works. Through processes of\nbuilding\, obscuring\, and reworking\, he develops imagery defined by form\, flow\, and visual rhythm. \nRather than depicting specific locations\, Cusack’s paintings move between imagined terrain\, instinct\, and sensory experience\, inviting viewers into immersive spaces shaped by color\, radiance\, and abstraction. \nHOME | bcusackart.com

SUMMARY:For The Birds - An Artful Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce a group exhibition: FOR THE BIRDS – An Artful Fundraiser. \nOver 18 artists have been invited to show ‘bird art’ at this exhibition where 10% of the sales proceeds go directly to Birds in Helping Hands\, a rescue organization helping birds in crises. \nWe love our aviary friends\, but often human behavior puts birds in dire circumstances. Birds in Helping Hands will rescue birds tangled in fishing wire\, torn by hooks or just suffering from broken limbs. Whatever the trauma\, Birds in Helping Hands\, an all volunteer organization\, is there to help. \nThis August\, Brenda McMahon Gallery is connecting art lovers with bird lovers. We aim to inspire while also doing good! \nThe exhibition runs through August 30th. \nWe are thrilled to host Jazz singer Sasha Tuck & Mike Hoke for our musical interlude. Music is on the Stage at 2901 runs from 6-9pm.

SUMMARY:Southern Nights: Traditional groundhog kiln workshop with Jon Brinley
DESCRIPTION:Friday and Saturday \nAugust 21 – 22 \nTime \n8am Friday – Est. 10am Saturday \nPrice \n$250 – Materials Fee $50 paid at the start of the workshop ~ Cash Only \n Traditional groundhog kilns have been the mainstay kiln design of eastern Appalachia for over 150 years. Their simplistic design lends to a relatively fast firing cycle of 8-12 hours\, compared to other kiln designs\, while heavily relying on alkaline glazes\, slips and salt for the ware. \nThough many of today’s contemporary wood fire potters may have moved away from these kilns there are some that only prefer this traditional method of firing. \nWe aim to show why these traditions are still viable. With less stresses on the exacts of stoking sequences and more on wood selection and clay choices. We will also be sharing few glazes that have served potters of old\, and us very well. \nStudents will arrive at 8am on Friday with 6-12 pieces of their own medium sized pottery\, ready to be fired. Students and instructors will work together to load the kiln and firing will begin around 6pm. The kiln must be tended to at all times\, and students will pick shifts to keep things running through the night. Expect a late evening\, midnight\, or early Saturday shift. \nRegister Here!\nSupplies: \n Closed Toed shoes \nNatural fiber clothing \n6-12 pieced of your own\, medium sized\, work to be fired
