DESCRIPTION:Chinese Brush Painting Workshop with Jo-An Thomas\nTime: 10:15am – 1pm\nPrice: $60 \nChinese Brush Painting is the foundation of all oriental brush arts. Painting in China is a way of life – and as such\, it hails from the philosophies of Taoism and Confucianism. Nature and its grandeur is appreciated for its intangible spirituality. \nIn this beginner’s workshop\, you will start by calming your spirit\, thinking\, and meditating about how you will paint the essence of your subject. Preparing yourself to paint\, you will use “The Four Treasures”- brush\, ink stick\, ink stone\, and rice paper- that have defined this art form for thousands of years. \nYou will find that Chinese Brush Painting is an enlightening practice in embracing change. \nYou will gain an overview of the history\, philosophy\, and aesthetic concepts\, understand the proper selection\, care\, preparation\, and use of traditional materials\, and perform the basic skills and techniques for brush strokes. \nLearn the basics of Chinese Brush Painting through hands-on instruction\, complete compositions\, handouts\, and discussion. Mastery of the brush empowers artists of any medium. \nStudents will compose a Chrysanthemum that they learned during this workshop. \nNote: Wear comfortable clothing. DESCRIPTION:This month’s BIRD EXHIBITION is a fundraiser for Birds in Helping Hands\, a not-for-profit bird rescue that serves Hillsborough\, Pasco & Pinellas counties. \nTonight\, we’ve asked them to join us and share more about what they do and how they work. We aim to both raise awareness and help more injured Florida birds. \nThis sit-down talk will run from 6-7pm. We hope to see you there.  \nGulfport’s Night Market is underway and runs from 5-9pm.  The Gallery is open all night.
